I was in the mood for an old-fashioned monster movie, and "The Mummy" certainly fits the bill. I'm not sure the creatures in this film are exactly what you would expect. They're rather indistinct and multifarious, but also grimly fascinating. I found myself watching through to the end of this film; something about it really compelled me to keep watching. There are lots of things one could complain about with "The Mummy," but that's not really my style. The film is shot well even if the story is not. I especially like the look of this film. The colors are fantastic, and the visuals are gorgeous. The only real problem with "The Mummy" is that it's not scary or suspenseful enough for me to really care what happens. I really like this movie, although some people might find it boring. There's nothing I dislike about the movie; there are no disappointments or notable flaws that really stand out systemically or individually. For me personally, this movie was neither good nor bad; it was just different than most movies I've seen recently, and it had some great visuals (the final pyramid scene especially). I don't know how I feel about the character of Evie Van Nightshade, but I do applaud the fact that the writers attempted to give her depth and potential for development. If you're looking for a monster movie or a film that's reminiscent of "The Mummy Returns," then "The Mummy" is definitely worth a watch. The movie has no real flaws and impresses me mostly by how well-shot and affectively directed it is. If you don't mind some dated visuals and no real suspense or scares, then this film is highly recommended. This was an eventful year for horror movies, as far as I can tell. The Conjuring turned out to be a brilliant ghost story that hit all the right notes. Then there's the much-maligned "Mama," which was ultimately a great horror film in my opinion. I understand why some people were disappointed by this film, so I didn't find it to be too outstanding. It has its problems, for sure; but I did enjoy it. "The Mummy" is about two sisters who discover an ancient tomb while on holiday in Egypt. The elder sister Evie Van Nightshade (Saoirse Ronan) is an archeology student, and she quickly becomes obsessed with the discovery of the tomb. She also quickly becomes convinced that she's uncovered evidence of an ancient curse. Because the discovery occurred on her birthday, Evie believes she is the target of the mummy's curse. The mummy in question is Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella), a woman who was once a princess in Egypt many centuries ago. The sad truth is that Ahmanet was betrayed by the Pharaoh Seti I, who had arranged to marry her after becoming enamored with her beauty. The pharaoh's son Ramses II was empowered with deadly powers in order to defeat his enemies in battle, including Ahmanet herself. cfa1e77820
